A Charming Classic – The 1964 Ford Anglia 105E

It’s not every day you come across a piece of motoring history that seems to carry both British charm and Malaysian nostalgia in one beautifully restored package. But that’s exactly what I found when I met up with my good old friend, Jude R, and saw his stunning 1964 Ford Anglia 105E… a car that’s as delightful as it is rare on our Malaysian roads today.

 

 

Registered here in 1964, this 997cc, 2-door beauty is a wonderful representation of Ford’s creativity from that golden era. The Anglia 105E was known for its unique design & the unmistakable back-slanted rear window and crisp body lines gave it a quirky personality that made it instantly recognizable, even from a distance. This was Ford’s effort to bring modern style to the small-car market, and it worked beautifully. So with that you can kinda imagine the way the owner feels while driving this beauty around acting all glossy!!

The 105E model was a huge leap forward for Ford when it debuted in 1959. Under its compact bonnet sat a 997cc overhead-valve a true engineering gem for its time, known for reliability and easy maintenance. The four-speed gearbox and light steering made it a pleasant and surprisingly nimble little car, especially on winding roads.

Jude’s car, dressed in turquoise with an old English white top, is a sight to behold kinda elegant, cheerful and unmistakably vintage. It has been beautifully restored, keeping all the period-correct charm intact, right down to its chrome trim (the middle not fitted yet lah) and original dashboard details. Seeing it today, one can only imagine the patience, passion, and attention to detail that went into bringing this 60-year-old gem back to life.

And yes……. for movie fans, this was the same model that flew across the skies in the “Harry Potter” films, making it one of the most famous Fords ever (i think heheheheh..) While Jude’s Anglia may not have wings, it certainly has character and presence & a real head-turner wherever it goes. (maybe i am just biased because to many who knows me i love this model)

I can’t help but think that if Jude ever decides to part with it one day, this car will make an incredible addition to any collector’s garage. A well-loved piece of motoring history like this doesn’t just represent a car & it represents a story, a time when design had personality and simplicity ruled the roads.

For now, though, I’m just glad to see this Ford Anglia 105E alive, shining, and proudly wearing its turquoise coat under the Malaysian sun….

For me…. It’s a true reminder that classics, when loved, never really grow old.
