Going But Not Forgotten – Datsun 160J SSS of the 70s

Sometimes when walking or ronda ronda around, you suddenly see something that makes you stop and check it out lah. That was me the other day, when I caught sight of an abandoned 70s Datsun 160J SSS, sitting quietly, left to battle the weather and time on its own. To most passersby, it’s just another old, forgotten car. But to those who know….. ah, this was once a machine with a story, a name, and a following.

To me it looks like the Datsun 160J SSS. It was part of the Violet series and came out during an era when Japanese manufacturers were really making their mark. The “SSS” badge stood for Super Sport Sedan, and while it wasn’t a fire-breathing sports car, it was stylish, agile, and full of character. Back in the 70s, it was the kind of car that turned heads — with its fastback styling, quad headlights, and just enough flair to separate it from the everyday sedans of its time.

In Malaysia, models like the 160J SSS were considered something special. They weren’t as common as the regular Datsuns you’d see ferrying families around, and owning one meant you had a taste for something a little sportier, a little more adventurous.
