The Forgotten Sedan – Mitsubishi Tredia
At the back of a small lorong, queitly sleeping with some old barang barang, I caught sight of what looked like a forgotten relic, a Mitsubishi Tredia, possibly from around 1983. The body still has its original charm, but time had clearly taken its toll. Faded paint, missing hubcaps (the small center one), and that unmistakable look of a car that hasn’t moved in years. Yet somehow, it still stood with a quiet dignity.
The Mitsubishi Tredia was one of those models that tried to bridge the gap between compact practicality and family comfort in the early 80s lah. Launched in 1982, it was designed to slot between the smaller Lancer and the larger Galant (like the sigma). With its clean boxy design, straight lines, and subtle chrome accents, it reflected the styling trends of its time & simple, purposeful, and a little futuristic back then.

Under the bonnet, if i remember correctly the Tredia came with a range of engines from 1.4 to 1.8 litres, and some versions were even offered with turbochargers, a rare treat for the era. It was among the first Mitsubishis to feature a front-wheel-drive layout, a big change that improved space and handling. Paired with Mitsubishi’s reliable mechanicals, the Tredia offered decent performance and comfort for its day.
In Malaysia during the 80s, the Tredia was nearly a common sight, but those who owned one often remember it as a sturdy, dependable
companion. Many served families faithfully for decades before being quietly retired, just like the one I stumbled upon.

Seeing it there, resting under the shade and dust, felt a little sad, a once-modern sedan now part of the forgotten landscape. But for those who remember the era, the Mitsubishi Tredia stands as a reminder of the simple, honest motoring days when Japanese cars were built with heart, not just numbers. Till the next car i come across.. Take care guys & Gals and thanks for spending the time to read these small articles. The google maps location is at the bottom for every member to know where the car is sleeping at.. Cheers alls
